SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 16, 2025) – The San Antonio Spurs are doubling down on their future.

The team picked up contract options on rising stars Stephon Castle and Victor Wembanyama, keeping Castle under contract through his third season and Wembanyama through his fourth. Both players are now locked in through the 2026-27 NBA season, giving fans plenty to be excited about.

The moves come as part of the NBA’s rookie-scale contract system, which gives teams the chance to keep first-round picks on affordable deals for four years. Teams must choose each fall whether to guarantee the next season for young players. For the Spurs, this wasn’t a difficult decision.

Castle, a 6-foot-6 guard out of UConn, took the league by storm in his rookie season. He played in 80 games, started 47, and averaged a rookie-best 14.7 points along with 4.1 assists and 3.7 rebounds. He didn’t just fill up the box score—he led all rookies in total points, steals, free throws made, and field goals. That effort earned him NBA Rookie of the Year honors and a unanimous spot on the All-Rookie First Team.

Wembanyama, meanwhile, continues to be a generational presence. The 7-foot-4 French phenom followed his own Rookie of the Year campaign with an even more explosive second season, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and a league-best 3.8 blocks per game before being sidelined by a right shoulder blood clot. Even in just 46 games, the 2025 All-Star left his mark.

Statistically, Wembanyama’s early career has been unprecedented. He’s the first player in NBA history to total at least 2,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 blocks, and 200 three-pointers in his first two seasons—a mind-bending mix of size, skill, and range.

For the Spurs, this is all part of the long game. The front office has made clear that it’s building a foundation, not chasing a quick fix. Keeping Castle and Wembanyama on their rookie deals gives the team both stability and flexibility—two pillars of a successful rebuild.

With Castle’s poise and playmaking, and Wembanyama’s all-world potential, San Antonio fans have every reason to believe brighter days are ahead. And now, those days are guaranteed- at least through 2027.
